About this artwork
This contemporary aviation sculpture presents an early flying machine inside a compact cubic steel frame. The internal image was developed from an original pen, ink and airbrush illustration based on vintage photography, then mounted in acrylic.
The frame is welded from 6 mm steel bar and hand-polished to an antique-silver sheen. Under natural or artificial lighting, the transparent image and open metal construction can project a focused shadow onto the nearby wall, creating an interplay of transparency, volume, structure and light.
The sculpture is intended for indoor use. It is supplied with an appropriate hook and wall plug for wall mounting, while its cubic form also permits freestanding display on a desk, table or bookshelf.
