About this artwork
This mixed-media wall sculpture presents an original collage joining El Lissitzky-inspired geometric construction with the profile of Giovanna degli Albizzi Tornabuoni from a Renaissance portrait by Domenico Ghirlandaio. The combination belongs to a series exploring portraiture through surrealist, modernist and geometric references.
The collage print is mounted in plexiglass within an approximately 10 cm cubic frame. The structure is welded from 6 mm steel bar and polished to an antique silver sheen. At roughly 250 g, the sculpture can hang using the supplied hook and wall plugs or stand on a desk or shelf. Natural and artificial light passing through the image creates a focused shadow around the three-dimensional frame.
