About this artwork
This aviation sculpture presents the Mercury seaplane inside a compact welded-steel cube. The image was developed from a vintage magic-lantern slide depicting Mercury, the smaller aircraft in the Short Mayo Composite, an early experiment in transatlantic flight.
The black-and-white art print is mounted in acrylic and surrounded by a frame welded from 6 mm steel bar. The metal is hand-polished to an antique-silver sheen. Natural or artificial light can project the structure's lines and image onto the nearby wall, adding shadow and depth to the composition.
The sculpture can hang on a wall using the supplied hook and wall plug or stand independently on a desk, bookshelf or library shelf. Its aviation subject may suit a pilot, engineer, architect, designer or collector of early-flight imagery. The object is intended for indoor use.
